Horror Films Institutions

Warner Bros:
Warner Bros is one of the main film studios based in California and New York. In addition, Warner Bros is a global leader in the creation, production, distribution, licensing and marketing of all forms of creative content. Warner Bros are specifically known for distributing films in the genres of fantasy, family and comedy. However they also distribute a variety of films from different genres, which include: romance, adventure, action and horror.

Some of the most successful films produced by Warner Bros are Orphan, Friday the 13th, Missed Call, Sweeney Todd,Annabelle and House of Wax.
20th Century Fox:
20th Century Fox is a film corporation which is one of the 6 major American film studios. The organisation was founded in 1935 hand has become the most recognised film institution in the world. 20th Century Fox has produced some very successful films such as: Avatar/ Star Wars/ Speed & The Chronicles of Narnia. The majority of popular and successful films that 20th Century Fox created are Comedy an Family genre films, for example: Alvin and the Chipmunks/ Doctor Do-little/ Night at the Museum and Diary of a Wimpy Kid. 

Even though 20th Century Fox are infamous for distributing  Comedy/ Fantasy and Family films, they have also produced and distributed some very successful horror films, such as: From Hell, Alien, The Omen, Jennifer's Body, The Haunting of Molly Hartley and Shutter. 
Universal Pictures:
Universal Pictures also called Universal Studios is a subsidiary of NBC Universal, and one of the six major movie studios. Similar to 20th Century Fox, Universal Picture prefer to create films focus on Drama, Romance and Adventure. Universal has achieved both popular success and its recent Academy Award winners: Atonement, The Bourne Ultimatum, King Kong, Brokeback Mountain, Ray, A Beautiful Mind, The Pianist, and Lost in Translation. Like 20th Century Fox, Universal Picture prefer to create films focus on Drama, Romance and Adventure, such as the films listed above.

However, they also produce some of the most popular horror films, as followed: Drag Me to Hell, The Strangers, Dead Silence and Dracula. 
Hammer:
Hammer is a film production company based in the UK. The company is best known for a series of Gothic Horror films produced between the mid-1950s until the 1970s, and they are most well known for producing films in the Horror genre. 

Some of their best produced and well-known films are: The Curse Of Frankenstein(1957), Dracula(1958), The Mummy(1959) and The Phantom of the Opera(1962). 
Lionsgate:
Lionsgate films is an American film production/distribution studio and is the largest and most successful mini-major film studio in North America. It focuses on foreign and independent films. Lionsgate have also collaborated numerous times with the amusement park Thorpe Park in developing immersive live action horror mazes during the parks Fright Night Halloween events. This has given the studio much more attention due to the attraction of thrill seekers and horror lovers to these events. Lionsgate's most successful films include the Hunger Games, Divergent and Twilight series'. 

Lionsgate have released and distributed 12 horror movies including: Blair Witch, Cabin Fever, Jessabelle, Texas Chainsaw 3D, The Cabin in the Woods and You're Next. 
Blumhouse Productions: 
Blumhouse Productions is a relatively new company which is introducing a new concept of horror with the Paranormal activity series and also The Purge sequel. Blumhouse Productions is the currently one of the leading and most successful horror film production company, especially since they do not have a very extensive budget and only spend around $5 million and make hundreds of millions of dollars with each film. Blumhouse built their reputation in horror firstly with Paranormal Activity, a found footage horror film that earner $108 million in US box office and an additional $85 million internationally, resulting in a total earning of $193 million. Shortly after the release of Paranormal Activity, the company releaseInsidious which grossed over $97 million worldwide off a budget of $1.5 million, and Sinister which grossed over $77 million.

Blumhouses most famous films include: Ouija, The Purge,The Paranormal Activity franchise, Insidious, Dark Skies and Sinister.
Main Brief: 
We have decided to work in synergy with Lionsgate for our film, this is because in both 2014 and 2015 it had 4 films in the top 15, this demonstrates to us how successful they are in the horror film industry. They are also very successful in distributing films in the sub genre of Psychological Horrors.  Lionsgate is famous for producing the Lazarus Effect, which was a best seller in 2014; which sold over 3 million tickets and made over $25 million.
