In order to plan for our main brief, we decided to take recce's of potential locations to film; we made sure to keep good lighting in mind. We had to keep in mind the genre of horror, to make sure it is suitable.
Firstly, we took pictures of the house we were going to film in. We took pictures in the kitchen, hallway and from the front and back of the house. This area would be perfect to film as it has a lot of glass, which heightens the vulnerability of Kirstie, as glass is easy to break. It could also hint to the audience that someone is watching from the outside. This can be shown by filming the windows from the outside as if someone is peering in. Also, the hallway has good lighting, with lighter areas and dark corners, which consequently makes it ideal for filming. Also, the fact that it is a large old house, fits the typical preferences of people in horror films.
Just a short walk from my house there is a old, abandoned house. It looks very sinister and is almost calling to be in a horror film. Generally, in horror films, old buildings haunted.
For our main brief, we wanted to make it seem as professional as possible, so we wanted a to film in a location where there would not be much background noise, as we want to emphasize the fact that this character is isolated. Also, background noise from cars could lessen the atmosphere.
This alley would be perfect for filming, as we will be able to film in the dark as lights have been installed. Furthermore, the alleyway matches the conventions of horror films because the lighting is low, giving the area a dark and mysterious atmosphere. However, when filming, the lighting must not be too low otherwise it would be difficult to see what is happening on screen.
