Main Brief: Roles

After researching into all the different roles in film production, Chelsea and I tried to put ourselves it the roles most suited to us and which responsibility each person is going to take on during production.  Through doing this it has helped me understand what goes on during all stages of production, which is going to be very beneficial for my horror film opening.

Director(s):
The director is primarily responsible for overseeing the shooting and assembly of a film.

Production Designer(s):
The production designer is the first artist to translate the script into visual form. He or she creates a series of storyboards that serve as the film's first draft.A storyboard is a series of sketches on panels that shows the visual progression of the story from one scene to the next. Storyboards serve as the director's visual guide throughout the production and will be a template to follow during the editing process.

Editor(s):
After the shooting begins, the editor will start to organize the footage and arranges individual shots into one continuous sequence. Even in a single scene, dozens of different shots have to be chosen and assembled from hundreds of feet of film. The editor's choices about which shots to use, and the order in which to place them, have a profound effect on the appearance of the final film.

Creator(s):
Comes up with the story idea and helps to develop it into a final media product.

Music Designer(s):

Music designers (or sound technicians) are required to assemble, operate and maintain the technical equipment used to record, amplify, enhance, mix or reproduce sounds. During production, the sound technician is responsible for recording all of the sound on set. During post-production, they are responsible for the balancing, mixing, editing and enhancing of prerecorded audio.

Script/Screenplay Writer(s):
Their role is to prepare stories and ideas and instructions for films, which is then adapted into a screenplay or script for the story line of the film.

Costume Designer(s):
Costume designers are responsible for creating an individual look for each character, designing clothes depending on the characters style and the genre of the film.

Makeup Artist(s):
A makeup artist ensures that all performers have suitable makeup and hair styles before they appear in front of the camera. Their work involves creating characters through the medium of makeup.

Main Cast Members:
An actor communicates a character to an audience through speech, body language and movement. This typically involves interpreting the work of a writer under the instruction and support of a director.

Chelsea and I have split the roles between us for the main brief. We will be sharing the role of director, as we think that it is one of the most important roles and we want to make sure that we are both happy with the shots. We have decided that we will edit the main brief together, as we both are very creative and we feel as though by working together will produce a better opening, at a much quicker rate. We wrote the script together and we are both production designers and creators - as the idea is a merge of our ideas.
